<p>The Wireless Communications Technician/Communications Equipment Specialist (CES) is responsible for repairing, testing, configuring, installing, and modifying electronic equipment that includes Public Safety radio transmission systems, security televisions, intercoms, public address, computer-based systems, and fiber optic systems, and related equipment. CESs install and maintain radio antenna and transmission line systems and a wide variety of electronic communications systems utilizing industry knowledge of standard practices, methods, equipment, tools, and materials used in radio and electronic testing, repair and maintenance. CESs interprets and works from electrical and electronic drawings, plans, diagrams, and specifications, and prepares rough, working drawings modifications. Work includes operating and maintaining field-tests and repair equipment.</p>
<p>CESs respond to emergencies during normal working hours and off-hours, make decisions, and take actions necessary to restore equipment and systems to service. CESs estimate time, materials and equipment necessary for work and are responsible for assuring that the necessary material and equipment are at the job site when needed. Shift work required.</p>
<p>Radio Communication Technicians/Communications Equipment Specialists report to a central location in New Jersey, and perform work at various Port Authority facilities throughout the New York/New Jersey region.</p>
<p>ELIGIBILITY REQUIREMENTS:<br />
Candidates must be present the following qualifications in order to be considered:</p>
<ul>
<li>High School diploma or GED from an accredited institution</li>
<li>Must possess General Radiotelephone Operator&#8217;s License issued by the FCC (applicants without this license will be required to obtain it within three months of employment).</li>
<li>3-5 years paid work experience in the installation, maintenance and repair of a wide variety of electronic equipment including, two-way radio systems, security TV systems, in-building</li>
<li>Distributed Antenna Systems, public address systems, intercom systems, and computer-based systems.</li>
<li>Valid Driver&#8217;s License</li>
<li>Must be able to obtain and maintain a valid Class B Commercial Driver&#8221;s License (CDL) with the Air Brakes endorsement or higher. Applicants without a Class B CDL must obtain a</li>
<li>Class B CDL Permit with endorsement before their first day of work, and will be required to obtain a Class B CDL with endorsement within three months of employment.</li>

<p>Successful written-test candidates will be invited to participate in a hands-on practical exam. The practical exam will measure the candidate¿s knowledge, skill and ability to work with tools, equipment, and materials used in communications systems maintenance and repair, demonstrating professional trade practices required for this job title. The Port Authority of NY &amp; NJ</p>
<p>The Port Authority of New York and New Jersey is a bi-state public agency operating some of the busiest and most important transportation links in the New York / New Jersey region including The Port Authority Trans Hudson Corporation (PATH), the primary transit link between Manhattan and New Jersey communities and suburban commuter railroads.&lt;br&gt;&lt;br&gt;Under the general supervision of a Maintenance Supervisor and/or a Watch Engineer, HVAC Mechanics/Utility Systems Maintainers (USM) performs a variety of journey-level duties in the operation, maintenance, repair and alteration of utility systems and related auxiliary equipment. Equipment may include air conditioning and ventilation systems, pneumatic and electric controls, high-pressure and low-pressure boilers, high temperature generators, and fire protection systems. The USMs lead and monitor the work of semi-skilled classes in the operation and maintenance of plant systems and equipment.</p>
<p>USMs work a 40-hour week, which include working rotating shifts, nights, weekends, holidays, overtime on short notice, and working during inclement weather. USMs work at our various Port Authority facilities throughout the New York and New Jersey area.</p>
<p>ELIGIBILITY REQUIREMENTS:<br />
Candidates must be present the following qualifications in order to be considered:</p>
<ul>
<li>High school diploma or GED from an accredited institution</li>
<li>A New York Fire Department Certificate of Fitness for Standpipe or Sprinkler operation</li>
</ul>
<p>OR a Black Seal Fireman&#8217;s License issued by the State of New Jersey</p>
<ul>
<li>Three years of full-time work experience as a HVAC Mechanic/Utility Systems Maintainer</li>
<li>Refrigerant Technician&#8217;s Certificate (RTC) issued by the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA)</li>
<li>Class B Commercial Driver&#8217;s License (CDL) with the Air Brakes endorsement or higher Applicants without a Class B CDL must obtain a Class B CDL Permit with endorsement before their first day of work, and will be required to obtain a Class B CDL with endorsement within three months of employment</li>

<p>A $25 non-refundable/non-transferable testing fee payable by MasterCard, Visa or a pre-paid credit card is required for the written test. The testing fee will be waived for qualified candidates receiving certain forms of public assistance who submit the required documentation.</p>
<p>Successful written-test candidates will be invited to participate in a hands-on practical exam. The HVAC Technician/Utility Systems Maintainer practical exam will measure the candidate&#8217;s knowledge, skill and ability to work with tools, equipment, and materials used in HVAC system maintenance and repair. The practical exam includes:</p>
<ul>
<li>Climbing a stationary ladder and demonstrating your ability to perform tasks at heights.</li>
<li>Installation of Heating Zones: According to specifications, you will be required to wire a thermostat, zone valves and auxiliary equipment on a simulated HVAC system.</li>
<li>Installation of a split AC Unit requires you to demonstrate how to charge and recover refrigerant from and an AC unit that was recently repair. You must completely describe all components of the unit, how they operate and how they are serviced</li>
<li>Servicing a Rooftop HVAC system: Using the appropriate trade procedures and equipment</li>
<li>Respond to a no-heat complain on a commercial building&#8217;s rooftop</li>
<li>HVAC system and to diagnose and repair the problem</li>
<li>Steel Pipe to Copper Pipe Construction: you will build a pipe project to specifications from a shop diagram that involves cutting, threading ¾ steel pipes, sweating copper pipe-bending and flaring refrigeration tubing.</li>
</ul>
<p>Selected candidates will be subject to a comprehensive background check and will be asked to provide copies of the required licenses for verification.</p>
